É com grande honra que a Embaixada da República do Malaui no Brasil anuncia a chegada do seu novo Embaixador, Sua Excelência Brian Bowler.

Detentor de um MBA concluído no Reino Unido e um bacharelado em Engenharia Mecânica, o Embaixador Brian Bowler nasceu em Blantyre, Malaui.

Embaixador Bowler vem com experiências tanto nos setores público e privado quanto na arena diplomática. Da perspectiva do setor privado, ele é acionista e proprietário de cervejarias nacionais no Malaui e na Tanzânia.

No setor público, ele já trabalhou como Presidente do Conselho da maior empresa de investimento do Malaui: o Departamento de Cooperação para o Desenvolvimento (MDC), na qual foi o maior promotor imobiliário do Malaui, supervisionando investimentos bancários e financeiros, de produção, hotéis e hospitalidade. Ele também foi Presidente do Conselho  da então linha áerea nacional: Air Malawi. Durante seu mandato como Presidente, os subsidiários desfrutaram de um crescimento sem precedentes e lucros significativos. Embaixador Bowler também foi um dos fundadores do Comitê Nacional da AIDS do Malaui (NAC), órgão que funciona como coordenador geral na luta contra o HIV/AIDS no país. Ele foi Chefe do Comitê Financeiro da Organização.

Na arena diplomática, Embaixador Bowler também tem extensa experiência e é o atual Decano do Corpo Diplomático do Malaui. Antes de assumir seu posto de Embaixador do Malaui no Brasil, Embaixador Bowler foi representante permanente do Malaui nas Nações Unidas, em Nova York, e trabalhou anteriormente como primeiro Alto Comissário do Malaui na Índia e Embaixador do Malaui na Bélgica, onde ele também foi acreditado na França, Suíça, Luxemburgo, Holanda, União Européia, no Parlamento Europeu, Tribunal Criminal de Justiça de Haia, Grupo de Secretarias de Estado da África, Caribe e Pacífico (ACP), na Organização Cultural, Científica e Educacional das Nações Unidas (UNESCO), Organização Mundial do Comércio (OMC), e Programa Alimentar Mundial (PAM). Embaixador Bowler foi o principal negociador de comércio e serviços sob o contrato de parceria econômica entre a União Européia e os blocos econômicos do Leste e Sul da África. Ele também trabalhou como Conselheiro de vários chefes de Estado e importantes grupos de reflexão.

Os interesses pessoais do Embaixador Bowler incluem a indústria de telecomunicação, o desenvolvimento imobiliário e negócios em geral, bem como golfe, voo e rugby. Sua verdadeira paixão é dar voz aos que não têm e a seus projetos filantrópicos, que constroem maternidades e criam programas de saneamento básico.      

       

    

 

 

THE GOVERNMENT OF THE FEDERATIVE REPUBLIC OF BRAZIL DONATES DEHYDRATED FOOD AND WATER PURIFIERS TOWARDS VICTIMS OF CYCLONE FREDDY.

In response to Malawi’s call for humanitarian appeal, the Government of the Federative Republic of Brazil through the Department of Brazilian Agency Cooperation-ABC donated 1.3 tons of dehydrated food to the Government of Malawi to help people who were affected with the devastation of Cyclone Freddy.

This is addition to the other donation of 5 tons of dehydrated food and 50 water purifiers that the Brazilian Government already made to Malawi towards the victims.

During a symbolic handover in Brasilia, His Excellency the Ambassador of Malawi to Brazil, Rev Dr Levi Nyondo on behalf of the Government and people of Malawi, thanked the Government of Brazil through ABC for the timely assistance. He said that the donation will go a long way in assisting the cyclone victims in getting drinkable water and food.

Part of the consignment of the 50 water purifiers, known as PW5660 purifiers, is a water purification system that makes drinkable water from rivers, lakes wells and cisterns. It is capable of removing 100% of viruses and bacteria from water and reducing up to 99% of particles.

Each water purifier (PW5660 purifier) has the capacity to purify up to 4 litres of water per minute and can generate over 5000 litres of water per day. It is affordable, cost-effective, easy to operate and requires low energy.

The relief items have since been received at Kamuzu International Airport by officials from the Department of Disaster Management (DODMA).



 

BILATERAL MEETING BETWEEN EMBASSY OF MALAWI IN BRAZIL AND THE DEPARTMENT OF HUMANITARIAN AFFAIRS OF THE BRAZILIAN COOPERATION AGENCY-ABC.

The General Coordinator for Humanitarian Cooperation of the Brazilian Cooperation Agency-ABC, Minister Jose Solla, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Rev. Dr Levi Nyondo, Ambassador of Malawi to Brazil.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss advancing deeper cooperation between Malawi and Brazil in humanitarian affairs and health. Minister Solla was accompanied by Mr. Antonio Junqueira, Programme Manager for Africa, Asia, Oceania and Middle East in the Department of General Coordination of Bilateral Technical Cooperation.

Mr. Junqueira sought to continue the discussion to expand technical cooperation between Malawi and Brazil in areas of agriculture, particularly in wheat, aquaculture and livestock farming.

His Excellency, Ambassador Rev Dr. Levi Nyondo, expressed gratitude for the cooperation between Malawi and Brazil and reaffirmed his commitment in strengthening the relationship between the two countries.









 

 

 

GOIAS-AFRICA BUSINESS FORUM

Malawi Diplomats during the Goias-Africa Business Forum

 

Malawi alongside other 17 African embassies: Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Mali, Namibia, Nigeria, Kenya, Republic of Congo, Tanzania, Togo, Zambia and Zimbabwe participated in the first Goiás-Africa Business Forum. The aim of the business forum was to strengthen ties and promote a round negotiation between businessmen from Goiás and representatives from the African countries.

The event was also attended by Chief of Staff from the Goias Governor’s Office, Paula Coelho, as well as representatives of the State Government that included Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (SEAPA), Secretariat of Industry and Commerce (SIC), International Affairs Office of the Government of Goiás, the president of Fecomércio, and international affairs advisory office at Fecomex.

Goias is the 11th most populous state in Brazil with over 7.2 million people, and has the 9th largest economy in Brazil. Goiânia is the capital and largest city in the state, as well as the seat of the Metropolitan Region of Goiânia. Goiania presents important economic spheres for exchange, such as tourism, agriculture, textiles and poultry.

The Dean of African Ambassadors, Mr. Martin Mbeng, Ambassador of Cameroon in Brazil, in his speech expressed appreciation for Brazil’s renewed attention to African issues. He stated that the strengthening of Africa and Brazil economy makes it possible to form culturally, politically, and economically strong blocs. Africa is looking at investments from Brazil in several sectors including cooperation, technology, agriculture, and mining.

The business forum was organized in a format that all the Embassies had a desk, while the business community or company representative had to visit the respective desks. A total of twelve (12) companies that visited the Malawi desk during the event expressed positive interests in establish business ties with Malawi. Several interests in key sectors were discussed including mega farms, agricultural technologies, medical cannabis, winery, and the supply of generators.

The Goias-Africa Business Forum came to an end with commitments reinforced and new partnerships to come to boost Brazil-Africa relations. For Malawi, the Goias-Africa Business Forum provided a good platform to learn more about the major industries and businesses in the State of Goias.
